Product Description 365 reasons to love America! The fife and drum of history mark the time of each passing day. And within their cadence, personalities, conflicts, discoveries, ideas, and nations peal and fade. American history is no different. From the starving time of Jamestown during the Winter of 1609, through the bloody argument of the Civil War, and to today, the United States is a tale best told one day at a time. Best-selling author and educator Dr. William J. Bennett is a master of the story that is the United States. And in The American Patriot's Almanac, Bennett distills the American drama into three hundred sixty-five entries-one for each day of the year. Fascinating in its detail and singular in its grasp of the big themes, Bennett's Almanac will make anyone a fan of history, assembling even some of the most obscure details. Even better, it will make of everyone a patriot.

An American History Daily Reader January 6, 2009 William Bennett and John Cribb have done Americans a great favor. They have compiled hundreds of vignettes from American history and have condensed them into short, readable, one-page accounts in this great book. The stories recounted in this volume are informative, inspirational and even surprising, at times. They will help refresh your memory of your high school or college history classes and even inspire you to search out more information on the events they highlight.
The authors have formatted the book as an almanac, with a one-page reading for each day, along with a listing of significant events that happened on that date on the calendar, along with the year it occurred. Between each month, there are also special segments which offer information on the American flags across the years, the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution of the United States and a number of other segments.
This book doesn't take the place of a good American History textbook, but I think every American should read it. The book organizes the readings according to the day of the year, but not by the year, so the stories are not in chronological order. The editors have compiled and included a great, but not exhaustive index in the back. It would have been nice to have a chronological index in the book of all the events discussed also.
I am sure that I will be re-reading this book again and again. I highly recommend it to you!
Daily reader. January 6, 2009 This book is a great way to remember what this country stands for. A daily dose of American history untouched by revisionists. Be proud to be an American.
The American Patriot's Almanac January 6, 2009 Interesting one page stories that you can put down and pick up at any time; each day has a different historic tale that occured on that day; if you like history, you will like this book.
Great Book January 6, 2009 I bought two of these books for Christmas gifts. I was very impressed by the books look, feel and content. When my husband and Father opened their presents, everyone in the room was grabbing for the book to check it out. Several wanted their own copy. It is a great book for anyone who marvels at history and politics.
All Time Favorite January 6, 2009 It was a great hit with my husband as well as our 15 year old grandsons.
