Amazon.com Congratulations, you're expecting a baby! What you may not be expecting is all of the requisite gear you "need" to look after your dear bundle. Fear not. Denise and Alan Fields, authors of Bridal Bargains, are here to tell you what's super and what's silly, and how to find it at the best price. You'll learn all about how (and where) to shop for a crib and dresser (including how to get European styling at reasonable prices), what you need in bedding and what can be skipped (a hint: no baby requires the $200 quilt!), which clothing brands are safest and least expensive, and how to shop for monitors, toys, car seats, strollers, books, videos, and more. The authors have field-tested every major brand (and several of the minor ones), and they provide star ratings and annotations at the end of every chapter. A helpful feature in each chapter called "Wastes of Money" will steer you away from $35 Baby Air Jordans and frilly diaper stackers that match your bedding. If that's not enough, they offer a money-back guarantee: If the book doesn't save you at least $250 in baby expenses, they'll refund the price of the book. Well researched and written in a witty and comfortable tone, Baby Bargains should be required reading for every safety- and money-conscious parent-to-be. --Rebecca A. Staffel

Awesome - Essential August 17, 2008 I bought this on recommendation from my dentist (a father of two). As a first-time mom I don't know what I would have done without it. I read the entire 600+ pages in a single weekend and completely re-worked my registry. I was able to eliminate a lot of unnecessary items that other lists (made by stores and manufacturers) say are essential. I did end up upgrading a couple of items such as the convertible carseat but I'm very glad I did. The tips and reviews are great - don't register without reading this first!
Great purchase August 5, 2008 I am a soon-to-be first time mommy and clueless about most things baby-until this book. Informative sections about each baby item left me feeling confident enough to make intelligent purchases. I highly recommend this book to new parents and those having multiple children.
Love this book! August 4, 2008 As a first time mom-to-be, I was recommended this book by a ton of people. This book has been an excellent resource in helping guide me in what to register for and purchase for baby! I highly recommend this book to every mom now, too!! I am also going to get "Baby 411" by the same authors.
Index is a complete mess August 3, 2008 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
Has anyone else noticed the index of this book rarely matches? I'd say 1 out of 10 searches I do from the index is accurate. What a waste of time and money!
wonderful for first time parents! August 3, 2008 A friend of mine received this book as a baby shower gift. The gift-giver highly recommended it so seeing as I was expecting too, I bought it. Since then my husband and I have referenced the book a ton while we were registering (we took it to babies r us with us) and buying our nursery furniture. It's great for first time parents like us who can't tell the difference at first glance between all the options for things and for those who just like to read reviews before buying things! I think it is a must-have for first time parents and it makes a great shower gift!
